Equity Data Science was founded in 2017 by a team of engineers, investors, and data scientists to commercialize a quantitative platform for fundamental investors, which has been in use at some of the top investment funds since 2012.

Sandeep Varma, CFA

CEO & CTO, Co-Founder

Sandeep co-founded Equity Data Science in 2017 and serves as the company’s Chairman and CEO.  His unique experience includes computer science, fundamental analysis, and data science. Prior to founding EDS, Sandeep was a quantitative analyst at Bridger Capital and a quantitative and fundamental analyst at Herring Creek Capital, a hedge fund founded by Steve Galbraith where he developed a proprietary quantitative platform for idea generation and risk management. Prior to that, he was a quantitative analyst at Credit Suisse where his responsibilities included portfolio and risk analysis and quantitative modeling for the Prime Brokerage and Securities desks. Before joining Credit Suisse in 2008, Sandeep developed and managed trading and risk management systems at Lehman Brothers and UBS. Sandeep received his Master of Engineering in Computer Science from Cornell University and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.

Greg McCall

President & CFO, Co-Founder

Greg co-founded Equity Data Science in 2017 and serves as the company’s President and CFO.  Greg has spent 27 years as a fundamental investor and was an early member of two, billion dollar-plus funds, including WestWay Capital, a pioneering technology fund focused on disruptive change. He was also a portfolio manager at Sage Asset Management and the founder of Rock Crest Capital, an investment firm based in Connecticut. Greg realized that the financial markets were becoming increasingly complex, and that to be successful, fundamental investors needed an easy-to-use and cost-effective platform to leverage the benefits of data science, which led him to start EDS with Sandeep Varma. Greg received his degree in finance from the University of Massachusetts, while competing and ranking nationally as a member of a D1 gymnastics team.

Ben Lieblich

Chief Data Scientist

Ben joined EDS early on as Vice President of Product and Quantitative Engineering. He started his career as a quantitative analyst at Credit Suisse where he first met Sandeep, our CEO. He went on to lead the analytics group at Shapeways 3D Printing, a prominent tech startup, after which he joined Raveneur Investment Fund as their quantitative analyst. He then went on to Cross River, a venture-backed technology focused bank, to develop their retail banking product and lead the bank's quantitative credit modeling effort. Ben graduated first in his class from Rutgers with concentrations in Math and Physics. He also has a Financial Engineering master's degree from UC Berkeley and a Product Management MBA from Cornell University.
